Hopes & Seams began in April 2020, founded by seventeen year-old high school Juniors from VA in response to the PPE shortage due to COVID-19. We design and sew reusable non-medical masks. Initially, our mission was to respond to the PPE shortage and donate masks exclusively and then were asked by friends in the community to sew masks once the CDC recommended face masks. Hopes & Seams has supplied over 2,400 face masks to local programs and organizations such as Herndon Cares, Mobile Hope of Loudoun, Feed a Hero Campaign, Soup for the elderly, the INOVA Schar Cancer Institute in Fairfax, VA, Chick-fil-A restaurants, Georgetown MedStar Hospital nurses, Retirement Communities, and more. For every mask purchased, Hopes & Seams donates a mask to a first responder or to those most vulnerable. We have become our own mini mask challenge relief effort
We quickly put to work the sewing skills we learned from our grandmother and the business sense we gained through our high school’s DECA chapter. In addition to recruiting family members and friends to make and deliver masks using social distancing measures, we have inspired volunteers to help with marketing and outreach.
Our mission is to make reusable masks available, to spread hope and to keep our community safe. We believe that kindness matters and making an impact in a difficult time during this pandemic is important to us and aim to create a positive community environment. We foster community collaboration through partnerships with other retailers who also donate their products in conjunction with our donations. When running our business we give back to as many people during this time, as we can. We donate our masks to those who work tirelessly to flatten the curve and we strive to protect those who work with Covid-19 patients and the elderly who have proven to be most vulnerable. Through social investment our business has had a great amount of success. Many others in the community are sewing and selling masks during this time. However, our company seeks a greater purpose. For every mask purchased, we donate a mask to those most vulnerable. With the help from our supporters, we have been able to donate hundreds of masks and spread hope in a time that desperately needs it. Our donation program has helped to increase our company’s visibility and our customer base.
In addition to recruiting family members and friends to make and deliver masks using social distancing measures, we have inspired volunteers to help with marketing and outreach. We have established partnerships with local businesses, Amphora Catering, Sweet from Scratch Bakery and they donate baked goods in addition to our masks to medical communities. We carefully create our masks to ensure our customers are comfortable and safe.
